Elizabeth Shealy, PT

Elizabeth is a UK trained, board certified physical therapist in the states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She has a specialty in pediatrics, neuro-developmental therapy (NDT), and the use of hippotherapy as a physical therapy treatment strategy.

Since 1993 she has worked in a variety of settings in the US including 25+ years as a pediatric physical therapist in the Sudbury Massachusetts public school system providing physical therapy for children ages 3–21. Elizabeth has experience working with a wide range of children and families including children with neurological disorders, genetic syndromes, and autism spectrum disorder. She is committed to providing individualized client centered care for each child with a focus on collaboration between therapist and caregivers.

In 2015, Elizabeth completed her training in hippotherapy with the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA). Hippotherapy is a treatment tool which incorporates the unique, multidirectional movement of the horse. Since then she has been incorporating the benefits of horse movement when appropriate as part of a client’s Plan of Care. She is also a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified therapeutic riding instructor.

Elizabeth grew up riding and caring for horses, a passion she continues to pursue in her free time. A mother to three grown children and two dogs (who thankfully never grow up!), Elizabeth moved to Rhode Island with her husband in 2022.

Winnie the Pooh
"I can't say enough about Elizabeth's knowledge and her ability to work with people in a way that suited each of their needs. She understood my son's need to the core and addressed every aspect of it.

Daniel benefited hugely from Physical therapy using hippotherapy. He grew in strength and endurance and we saw a big boost in his confidence on the playground and gym class at school. My son is now in 5th grade and is as able and strong as he is today thanks to all the work Elizabeth did with him. Daniel loved every minute he got to spend with her during Physical Therapy."
